The world is filled with a lot of mysteries that man has been able to discover and who knows, there just might be so many other mysteries in the world that are still unknown to man.

Here are 10 most mysterious places discovered on Earth. These are places that defy simple logic or scientific explanation. They include:

• Blood Falls Antarctica

We all know that waterfalls always feature clean, pure and transparent water but the same cannot be said for the Blood Falls Antarctica where the water falls are a deep red color. What makes it even more stunning is that the waterfall is o the Taylor Glacier, which is a snow-white color, making the blood red waterfall even more obvious. There have been several attempts by Microbiologists and Glaciologists to determine the cause of the blood red color of the waterfall and it was concluded that the source of the water, which is the Subterranean lake, is very rich in iron but they have been unable to explain the reasons why microorganisms are able to thrive in the iron and sulfur-rich water without being harmed.

• Magnetic Hill, Moncton, New Brunswick

For 80 years and counting, no one has been able to solve the riddle of the magnetic hill. This hill simply defies the laws of gravity. If you drive your vehicle down to the bottom of the magnetic hill and take your feet off your brakes, your vehicle would roll back uphill; stranger than fiction huh?

• Surtsey, Iceland

The Surtsey Island was formed by a volcanic eruption which took place between 1963 and 1967. The Volcanic eruption left behind an island that didn’t exist before the eruption.

• Moeraki Boulders, New Zealand

These Boulders which are about 12-feet in circumference are scattered across the Koekohe beach. They were formed as a result of hardening of sediments for more than one million years.

• Longyearbyen, Norway

• Eternal Flame Falls, Orchard Park, New York

A Geological fault in the Shale Creek preserve section of the Chestnut Ridge Park, Buffalo, New York allows for a passage of at least one Kg of methane gas per day to escape the earth, and if a lighter is set to it, it bursts out in flames until the waterfall extinguishes it.

• Pantanal Wetlands, Southern Brazil
