Wearing Military Uniform, MS Dhoni Received Padma Bhushan. Watch

MS Dhoni, one of India's most successful cricket captains, was conferred with the prestigious civilian honour Padma Bhushan on Monday. Incidentally, the Padma award ceremony fell on the seventh anniversary of the famous World Cup triumph. What, however, brought the excitement level a notch higher is the way MS Dhoni, smartly dressed in military uniform, marched past the dignitaries present at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the esteemed award from President Ram Nath Kovind. Apart from being India's first and the only captain to win all 3 ICC limited overs trophies, MS Dhoni also holds the rank of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army.

Soon after receiving the Padma Bhushan, MS Dhoni took to the photo-sharing app Instagram to share his excitement. He posted several pictures from the gala ceremony with the caption: "An honour to get the Padma Bhushan and receiving it in Uniform increases the excitement ten folds.thanks to all the Men and Women in Uniform and their families for the Sacrifices they make so that all of us could enjoy our Constitutional Rights.Jai Hind.(sic)"

A Tweet from President Ram Nath Kovind's handle:
presents Padma Bhushan to Shri Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Sports. One of India's most successful cricket captains, @msdhoni is only Indian captain to win all three ICC limited-overs trophies

Flattered by MS Dhoni's walk, former Indian opener Virendra Sehwag tweeted, "The march past, the salute, the holding of the certificate, everything done so beautifully. Congratulations Lt. Colonel MS Dhoni of 106 Para TA Batallion on the #PadmaBhushan !

The march past, the salute, the holding of the certificate, everything done so beautifully. Congratulations Lt. Colonel MS Dhoni of 106 Para TA Batallion on the !

Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted, "Felt proud to see M.S. Dhoni in his army uniform on this occasion, accompanied by his wife Sakshi."

Congratulations to the legendary Cricketer @msdhoni and international Billiards player @PankajAdvani247 on being awarded Padma Bhushan today in Rashtrapati Bhawan. Felt proud to see M.S. Dhoni in his army uniform on this occasion, accompanied by his wife Sakshi.

Another picture of MS Dhoni where he is holding his daughter Ziva as she cutely smiles to the camera wearing his army cap, also garnered attention on social media. Here's the picture of the daddy-daughter duo:

KANCHANA 3 - Horror-Comedy starring Raghava Lawrence, Oviya, Vedhika

Doopaadoo, a south India's leading online musical platform, started by CEO Kauntheya Sivananthan and lyricist Madhan Karky to support independent musicians, has now started the songs bank. As per this scheme, filmmakers who are in need of songs, can take the song from the bank, and feature it in their movie, crediting the music director, lyricist, and the singer.

Film Kanchana 3, starring Actress Vedhika who teamed up with Raghava Lawrence in the first part is now sharing the screen space with Raghava Lawrence in the fourth instalment. The other female lead roles will be played by "Big Boss" Oviya and newcomer Nikita.

He said to use 3 songs from Doopaadoo, for his horror comedy film, while he has also acquired two other songs too, which he is expected to use in his next venture, after Kanchana 3. On the whole, Raghava Lawrence will supposedly be using 5 songs from Doopaadoo. An official announcement regarding this is expected to be out soon.

This is a new platform that will definitely pave a new way of a musical renaissance. “Tracks from DooPaaDoo’s song back has already been used in a couple of bi-lingual movies which are yet to release”, adds Madhan Karky.

Oviya Helen, who is making waves in showbiz after her stint on Bigg Boss Tamil, seems to be on a signing spree. After Katteri with director Deekay, the buzz is that Oviya will now be part of Raghava Lawrence’s next movie in his Kanchana/Muni series. A picture of the young actor with choreographer-actor-director Raghava Lawrence is also doing the rounds on social media. This will be the fourth instalment of Lawrence’s Muni franchise that comprises a set of horror-entertainers. With a liberal dose of humour, the director had successfully managed to sell horror to family audiences. If the template is followed, Oviya is most likely to be essaying the role of a ghost. While Muni had Vedhika and Kanchana featured Raai Lakshmi, Kanchana 2 starred Tapsee Pannu and Nithya Menen.

Katteri will see Oviya paired opposite Telugu actor Aadi who is making his Tamil debut with the movie. The film will be produced by Studio Green’s K.E.Gnanavel Raja.

After her stint on Bigg Boss Tamil, it looks like Oviya is using her newfound fame smartly. The actor was recently roped to be the face of a popular clothing chain in Chennai. Oviya was also seen at the store launch of the brand where she was greeted by a massive crowd. With her ‘Army’ gaining massive strength, several people are trying to cash in on her popularity. The filmmakers of Cheeni even renamed an in-the-cans film Oviyaava Vitta Yaaru. She has also played an extended cameo in Vishnu Vishal’s upcoming film Silukkuvarpatti Singam, which is touted to be her comeback on the big screen.

Whatever you do, do not drape your saree like Shilpa Shetty

There's a very, very fine line between beautiful and weird when it comes to experimental fashion. The latest thing that has caught tinsel-towners' attention for experimentation is the traditional Indian saree.

Yes, we agree that the six-yard wonder was being draped in exactly the same way (more or less) over the past many decades. And yes, a refreshing experiment or two in that direction was more than needed. But what Shilpa Shetty wore recently actually made us feel a little bad for playing around with such a beautiful traditional piece of clothing.

This is what Shilpa Shetty recently wore:

Now, we're all for experimental fashion. But this saree is just taking things to a whole new level of weird. The IKAI saree is not just looking uncomfortably draped--we wonder how she's walking in it--but it also looks incomplete. The attire is more of a skirt with pallu, worn with a contrasting coloured crop-top. And those Louboutin pumps are just the wrong pick for the attire, especially the colour.

The sad part is, Shilpa has experimented with sarees in the past too, and has emerged looking rather beautiful in them. Here's the case in point:

This one experiment, however, just went a little over the top, Shilpa.

Riya Sen Forcefully Pulls Down Her Ragini MMS Returns Co-Star's Pants And He Finds It Amusing

Riya Sen was recently in the news for excessive PDA with her husband Shivam Tiwari. An Instagram post by her broke the Internet, where the couple was seen locking lips.

Now seems like Sen is hell bent on keeping the spotlight on her. If reports are to be believed, Sen 'sexually harassed' her Ragini MMS Returns co-star Nishant Malkani and he found it amusing.

In an interview with BollywoodLife, Malkani narrated the incident and said: “So I remember the other day when we were shooting for this love making scene, Riya suddenly got so happy and suggested I should pull down my pants and flaunt my butt cheek just like how John Abraham did in Dostana 2. I didn’t take her seriously until she literally pulled down my pants while we were shooting the scene and exposed my butt cheek. I was like whattt?? At least you could have told me before doing it and she was like oh don’t worry, people seeing your butt cheeks are going to love you. Trust me all the women are going to love you…you have a great body and this and that I couldn’t go beyond “Riya kya kar rahi hai yaar, bata toh deti?”

“I don’t know if that’s (the scene) there in the film or no ya but it’s a very funny thing that happened. But I hope her words come true. Like whole world talking about me and my butt."

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu break-up: What exactly went wrong between them

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu's relationship was the stuff of legend. Love blossomed between the two on the sets of Jism (2003), and then there was no looking back. Their adorable displays of affection gave everyone relationship goals, and millions waited with bated breath for them to get married. So when John and Bipasha announced that they were parting ways after almost a decade of being together, it came as a a bolt from the blue.
From infidelity to John's reluctance to commit, many reasons were speculated to be the cause of the split. It was a bitter break-up, and the two have not stayed in touch. Bipasha recently said that it was very much possible to be friends with your ex, if he wasn't an "a******". Whether she was hinting at John or not is anyone's guess.
Incidentally, John and Bipasha have given very different versions of their break-up. While Bipasha told The Times Of India that their split was "definitely not amicable", John said on a chat show that it was "very, very amicable" and that "there was nothing ugly" about it. "When we broke up, we spoke about it like two very mature individuals and realised that we were not on the same plane," he said.
One of the theories doing the rounds was that Bipasha was keen on tying the knot with John, since they had been together for almost a decade, but he was not willing. On the same show, John admitted that he did not want to get married and said, "We have grown out of the relationship and somewhere down the line, I'd point a finger at myself and say that I probably didn't match up to a lot of things. We both had different visions for this relationship. I probably wasn't ready to commit at a point of time when the relationship needed culmination."
Bipasha, however, had a different version of events. There were rumours that John cheated on her with his now-wife Priya Runchal. Bipasha seemed to confirm this when she said in an interview with The Times Of India in 2012. "Though no break-up is a good break-up, time heals everything, including broken friendships... But cheating, infidelity and deceit are generally tough to forgive, and in those cases, real friendship is not possible," she said. When prodded about whether John was unfaithful to her, Bipasha said, "I reserve my comments."
She did not spell it out, but her hint was not missed. A few months later, John claried his side of the story. "I know that break-ups stir up a lot of emotions and I can empathise with that. I come from a family where credibility and honesty have always mattered. Cheating and dishonesty, in any form, is not in my DNA," he told Hindustan Times. He added that he had maintained a dignified silence all this while, but that should not be mistaken as guilt.
Bipasha also said that she gave her hundred per cent to the relationship, and went the extra mile for love. Not only did she give up her social life, but also lost out on films, if she is to be believed. "I am to blame for what happened to me. I allowed a lot. Anyone who pulls you down in your life, should not be in your life," she told The Times Of India.
When it all fell apart, Bipasha was in no mood to forgive John. However, John maintained on the show that he was more than open to being on good terms with her. "Bipasha has been an exceptionally great friend, and I'd love to get that friendship back," he said.
Today, John Abraham is happily married to Priya Runchal, while Bipasha Basu has found the perfect husband in Karan Singh Grover. But even though both have moved on, it does not look like the former couple will bury the hatchet anytime soon.

PM Narendra Modi has a special request for Anushka Sharma

Three years after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched, the movement is set to become bigger. PM Modi is reaching out to celebrities and inviting them to be a part of Swachhata Hi Seva, a campaign which will "encourage widespread support for, and participation in cleanliness initiatives across India" in the days leading up to the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Anushka Sharma was one of the celebrities he reached out to, and the actor took to Twitter to announce her association with the campaign. Along with the picture of the letter, she wrote, "Happy Birthday to our honourable PM @narendramodi ji. Thank you Sir for the invitation to join the #SwachhataHiSeva movement. I am honoured to be a part of #SwachhBharat campaign and will do my best for the noble initiative of #SwachhataHiSeva."

On the work front, Anushka was last seen on the big screen in Imtiaz Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal. She is currently working on her production, Pari, which she will also star in. Apart from this, she will be seen in Rajkumar Hirani's Sanjay Dutt biopic, Aanand L Rai's film in which Shah Rukh Khan will play a dwarf as well as a Yash Raj film titled Sui Dhaaga - Made in India.

Aditya Pancholi attacks Kangana Ranaut again, proves she's not younger than his daughter

If you are familiar with Kangana Ranaut's journey in Bollywood, you know that Aditya Pancholi had taken her under his wing when she had just arrived in Mumbai and was looking for her big break. However, things went south when Aditya allegedly beat her up. Although Kangana had not revealed the identity of the man her "father's age" who had beaten her up until now, she recently went on record to say that it was Aditya.

Kangana claimed that she went to Aditya's wife Zarina Wahab for help. She said, "I'm a year younger than his daughter. I was a minor. For me, this was all very new - the world that I had come into. I remember going to his wife and meeting her, and I'm like 'Please save me! I'm younger than your daughter. I'm a minor and I can't tell my parents.'" After supposedly being turned away by Zarina, Kangana said that she approached the police.

After calling her a liar and a "mad girl", Aditya claimed that no FIR was filed and challenged Kangana to produce a copy if she ever did lodge a complaint. Now, he sent documents to SpotboyE which discredit Kangana's claim that she was younger than his daughter. An Aadhar card belonging to Aditya's daughter Sana Pancholi shows her year of birth as 1987, while a picture of Kangana's 'passport' that is doing the rounds on the internet shows her year of birth as 1986.

Aditya hinted that the Queen actor is lying about her age and said, "Kangana should produce her birth certificate and confirm her age and it would be interesting to see if it tallies with the passport copy which is doing the rounds on the Internet."

Nishant Malkani turns down reports of sexual harassment by Ragini MMS Returns actress Riya Sen

© IBTimesReports were making the rounds on the internet that Riya Sen caused s***** harassment to her co-star Nishant Malkani while shooting for a steamy lovemaking scene in their upcoming Alt Balaji's new erotica web series Ragini MMS Returns. Turning down all the reports, Nishant has finally opened up about the entire episode denying the claim that he was the victim of s***** harassment and objectification by Riya Sen.

While the actor was merely elaborating one of the funny incidents in an interview, his words were completely blown out of proportion which often happens in the world driven by social media.

"I was stunned with all the reports of Riya s******* harassing me. For God's sake, I would know if I was s******* harassed. And I am man enough to own up to it if it happened. It is ridiculous to even suggest that Riya took advantage of me. If she pulled my pants down she did it for the scene. I am okay with it. She's okay with it. Her husband is okay with it. Then who are these people shouting about s***** harassment?" Nishant told DNA in a report adding that s***** harassment is a very serious matter and it should not be trivialised and used for making sensational headlines.

"We were shooting a bedroom sequence where we had to get intimate. In the bid to make it as real as possible we were both improvising. Riya pulled my track pants down, and that too just a bit," he said adding that it is equally important for a man or a woman to come forward if you are s******* harassed.

Arjun Reddy Ending Its Theatrical Run

Sensational hit "Arjun Reddy" has completed three week-run in movie theaters and is now entering fourth week, but the distributors are scrapping the number of screens.

After a terrific start and good collections during the first 15 days, the revenue has fallen drastically in the past one week.

Though the film won critical acclaim and has been liked by youth, it did have a setback due to the overt public speeches of the film's hero Vijay Devarakonda.

While it did not have competition from recent releases like "Paisa Vasool", "Yuddham Saranam" and "Meda Meeda Abbayi", "Arjun Reddy" started showing a fall in revenues.

On the other hand, "Fidaa" that has already completed 50 days is making more money than "Arjun Reddy" in Hyderabad.

So trade pundits say that the film will be taken off screens next week as the Dassera films will hit the screens.

"Arjun Reddy" was sold for mere Rs 6 crore and it brought in profits to distributors within three days. Its total share is in the range of Rs 23 crore world-wide.

Had the team been more careful and planned well, the film would have easily crossed the Rs 30 crore mark.

Meet the 6ft 9in Russian model with the longest legs in the world

A towering Russian model who overcame bullying to become an Olympic star has officially set a new record for having the world’s longest legs (female).

Ekaterina Lisina, who stands at 6ft 9in, has two Guinness records to her name having also been crowned the world’s tallest model.

The 29-year-old’s left leg measures 132.8 cm (52.2 in), while her right leg is 132.2 cm (52.0 in) long.

She comes from a very tall family, with her brother measuring 6ft 6in, her father at 6ft 5in and her mother at 6ft 1in.

The model says it “feels amazing” to become a Guinness World Records title holder and hopes it will increase the positive attention she gets day to day.

Lisina overcame being bullied about her height as a teenager to achieve her dreams of becoming a professional model.

In 2008, she played in the Russian Olympic basketball team and won a bronze medal at the Beijing Games.

Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday said: “We might have been inspired this year by fictional superheroes, but the focus for this edition is celebrating the planet's real-life superheroes, who come in all shapes and sizes.

“We believe that everyone has a superpower that’s waiting to be discovered, and our search for the latest record-breaking talent has brought us into contact with some truly superhuman characters.

“Beyond these wonder women and super men, you’ll also find an awe-inspiring roster of record-breakers, from talented pets and remarkable feats of engineering to amazing wonders from the natural world and every significant sporting achievement of the past year.”

How Game of Thrones season 7 went awry, Waiting for Season 8 on 2018

Arya and Sansa discuss recent events. HBO

Here’s a question I keep asking myself: What happened in the seventh season of Game of Thrones?

By that, I don’t mean what were the series of events that transpired on the show. It’s easy enough to compile a plot summary that makes season seven sound reasonably coherent. I mean what was the purpose of anything that happened? What were the deeper themes or character dynamics being explored?

Or, to put it another way: Was there a single storyline that didn’t endlessly run in circles while waiting for the Wall to come down and the White Walkers to march into Westeros? Season seven was, by and large, a waiting game.

We knew Jon and Dany would probably hook up — but we had to wait. We knew somebody would figure out Jon’s parentage — but we had to wait. We knew the White Walkers would somehow threaten the Seven Kingdoms as they never had before — but we had to wait.

This led to what might be Game of Thrones’ weirdest season yet. Season seven was often incredibly fun (those set pieces!), but it felt more weightless than even some of its weaker predecessors (looking at you, season five). Right at the worst possible time, it’s become all but impossible to figure out just what anything on the show means.
Game of Thrones has lost the plot when it comes to anything other than showing the audience a good time

Let’s use season seven’s Sansa and Arya plotline as a microcosm for its issues as a whole. After Arya returns to Winterfell (and the two have a heartfelt reunion), Littlefinger begins to plant seeds of dissension in the sisters’ relationship, seeds that culminate in Arya threatening Sansa’s life in the season’s penultimate episode. It turns out, however, that Littlefinger was the one in danger, as Sansa and Arya catch onto his ruse (with an assist from Bran, who can see into the past). Arya ultimately slits his throat.

The outcome of this plot — Sansa and Arya’s bond is stronger than ever, and the North also has a hold over the military forces of the Vale (who were formerly under Littlefinger’s command) — isn’t bad. But all of the legwork to get there was far too convoluted and makes little to no sense if you think about it for more than a couple of seconds.

My initial thought was that Arya and Sansa were plotting this eventuality all along, which is why they went along with Littlefinger’s scheme just long enough to put him in a position where they could kill him. But if that’s the case, why were there so many scenes featuring just the two sisters, scenes that Littlefinger couldn’t plausibly know about? And if going along with Littlefinger wasn’t an act, then the storytelling is even stranger, because Sansa and Arya spent a lot of time fighting about things that seemed largely out of character, as opposed to all of the things they really did have to fight about (as The Ringer’s Alison Herman outlines here). This Variety interview with Isaac Hempstead Wright (who plays Bran) suggests the latter interpretation — but the scene cut from the episode only underlines even more how the show chose to obfuscate its storytelling rather than be straight with its audience.Happy love times. HBO

The inescapable conclusion is that the scenes themselves served little purpose other than to mislead viewers, in hopes of making the moment where Sansa reveals that it’s Littlefinger who’s on trial, rather than Arya, more surprising and satisfying. And the more you look at season seven as a whole, the more you realize that it pulls this same sort of trick throughout — stories make little sense at the macro level because the show is so intent on outmaneuvering the audience on a micro level.

Game of Thrones’ reliance on this tactic gets even worse when you start to examine individual scenes from season seven within the context of their overall story arcs. Oftentimes, I would watch a scene and have no idea what it was supposed to convey, beyond raw plot information. The character dynamics the show had established were either pointlessly stretched out (as with Arya and Sansa) or heedlessly rushed (as with the gallop to get Jon and Dany into bed). And the show’s larger themes of power and its responsible wielding were largely thrown out the window in favor of a focus on big, catastrophic moments.

Not every show needs to make its scene-to-scene intentions clear. For a concurrently running example, I often have no idea what the point of a scene is on Twin Peaks, but part of the show’s appeal is getting lost in its strange, mysterious world. Game of Thrones, however, was built atop straightforward, muscular storytelling. You knew the reasoning behind every scene. You knew what each character wanted in that scene. And you knew the consequences of what would happen if they didn’t get it. but in season seven, the series quit showing its work. Too many scenes existed just to exist.

When you consider that Game of Thrones is no longer being adapted from George R.R. Martin’s books, but from some outlines he wrote for what he thought the final books mightbe, the shift we saw in season seven makes sense. Previous seasons could strand Arya in a plot cul-de-sac (as when she spent the bulk of season two as Tywin Lannister’s cupbearer), but use that plot cul-de-sac to both deepen her character and build tension over whether Tywin would realize her identity. Season seven only used such plot cul-de-sacs to trace the same patterns over and over again.

You could conceivably blame this circular storytelling go Game of Thrones’ soap opera DNA, which often dictates that stories advance glacially, then all at once — an approach that may not have had enough room to breathe in season seven’s shortened seven-episode run (all of the show’s previous seasons ran for a full 10 episodes).

But I would point to a different “culprit.” Namely, the way we talk about Game of Thrones, the way we consume Game of Thrones, and the way we think about Game of Thrones has almost no connection to its actual quality.
We talk about Game of Thrones like it’s really happening. That’s a little weird.

When Game of Thrones is on the air, it’s almost impossible to discuss anything else on TV if you have a job like mine. I could tell you how much I’m enjoying Freeform’s The Bold Type, or talk about how Showtime’s Twin Peaks revival feels like a weekly revelation, or mourn the end of Halt and Catch Fire. But inevitably, the conversation turns to Game of Thrones — as it must.

There have always been shows like this. Whether it’s Seinfeld or The X-Files, The Sopranosor Lost, there are always shows that transcend their TV roots to become pop culture monoliths that everybody enjoys discussing and arguing about. When a show achieves that level of cultural omnipresence, not watching it is almost a commentary in and of itself.

But where discussions about these culturally omnipresent shows usually center on some sort of element of the show itself — how will the writers handle this story? What’s the next big twist going to be? What joke made you laugh the most? — discussions around Game of Thrones tend to take the form of Monday-morning quarterbacking. Let’s offer military advice to Daenerys. Let’s fret over how Sam won’t listen to Gilly about a very significant wedding. Let’s rank and rate the political strategies of the show’s major players.

I don’t mean to suggest this stuff isn’t fun. As someone who writes a weekly column naming the show’s major players as winners or losers, I can assure you it is very, very fun to treat this obviously unreal scenario as though it were really happening. Watching Game of Thronesfunctions somewhat similarly to sports — rooting for certain “teams” and really caring about events that you have absolutely no bearing on can be a good pressure release valve at a time when we’re all in need of as many pressure release valves as we can find.
YEEEEEEEAAAAHHHH! HBO

But it also, I think, lets the show off the hook a little bit. Let’s go back to that scene where Sam wouldn’t listen to Gilly, for example. It’s been written about in terms of its resonance with the way men don’t listen to women in the workplace, and in terms of the secret Gilly had likely uncovered, and in terms of a whole bunch of other things. But few have written about the scene in terms of it being as a really bad writing decision — a way to put off a major event we knew was coming in transparently silly fashion. It could have worked if Game of Thrones had leaned into the ridiculousness of how it was plainly stalling for time, but the show didn’t do that. It simply acted as though we all knew Sam couldn’t find out about Jon’s parents until the season finale.

Season seven was replete with these sorts of bad writing choices, which were often saved by the performances or direction. The journey north to capture a wight made no logistical sense even before you introduce goofy timeline shenanigans — but boy did it look cool! It’s not immediately clear if the Night King had a plan B to bring down the Wall if he didn’t somehow capture a dragon — but boy did it look cool! Cersei and Tyrion spent a huge chunk of time in the finale informing each other of things they already knew — but boy are those actors great!

Please note that none of this means Game of Thrones is bad. I finished watching almost every episode of season seven with a stupid grin on my face, and it only became apparent how little sense it made once I started trying to write about it.

But it’s in those moments when you step back and really scrutinize the show that you realize it’s just good and immersive enough to escape being evaluated as a piece of television. So instead, we talk about it like it’s the daily news.

And that’s what might come back to hurt it in the end. By offering up a penultimate season so devoted to misleading the audience and stalling for time and hauling out moments of fan service, Game of Thrones has only set the bar it has to clear in its eighth and final season that much higher.
