I am not afraid of Sasikala, Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa says

Late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar on Tuesday said she would definitely contest election. However, she said there is no need for her to contest in the same constituency where AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala, who was elected as the leader of the legislature party, might be contesting.

Addressing a press conference at her home in T Nagar here, she said the day Sasikala was elected as the leader of the legislature party was a sad day for Tamil Nadu. "I am not afraid of Sasikala," she said

Deepa said people are worried after Sasikala made the move to be the next chief minister. "There is instability in the state," she said.

Deepa said lots of people had been calling her since Sunday after Sasikala was elected the leader of the legislature party. "I am under a lot of pressure to express my plans to enter politics. I will announce them on February 24, on Amma's birth anniversary," she said.

Deepa also said she was not satisfied with the explanation given by doctors with the regard to the "mysterious circumstance" surrounding the death of her aunt."

"I was not consulted before doctors pulled the plug in her. By not consulting me (as a family member), they are trying to make a point," she said.

"My aunt is the only reason for me to enter politics. I have no other personal reason," she added.
